Our Headset Design

Design

In order to reduce problems with a VR headset's impact on health, the future design aims to make the VR headset more comfortable to wear. To make a VR headset more ergonomic, the design creates mixed reality glasses that will be connected to a neck pillow with the systems inside. This headset comes with two VR controllers that are going to be used for the VR portion of the device. The neck pillow is to help the comfortability that the VR headset has been struggling with and having the system inside of the neck pillow can help with some of the problems that haven't been solved.

Glasses

The glasses will be able to switch from AR to VR with camera lens-like shutters on the glasses. The glasses are meant to be an improvement from the VR headset since the headset would cause eye strain as well as some muscle strain. The glasses are there for a display and to not push the user. The AR glasses will still be able to connect with other gaming devices such as consoles or a PC . The AR glasses would usually need an hdmi adapter cable but this device will have it implanted inside the neck pillow so there is no need to buy one.

Neck Pillow

The neck pillow is designed to hold the VR system because we had seen that a lot of neck problems happen with the headset being on the face. The material that's going to surround the system is going to be PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) which is a heat resistant plastic. Surrounding the PTFE is going to be stuffing and fabric to comfort the user during use (Radulovic & Wojcinski, 2014). This is meant to comfort the user while using the device and to help prevent neck pain. There will be an audio jack for wired headphones as well as bluetooth based on user preference.

Controllers

The controllers of the VR headset will be Similar to other designs, with four buttons and a joystick. These buttons and joysticks help the user walk around and play with items in virtual reality. These controllers will connect to the headset with bluetooth and interact with the virtual world while connected. These controllers will be powered by a battery pack, and will have straps that can be adjusted to help users feel more comfortable and unable to accidentally throw them.
